  • 1.  Total stubby area question

    Hi everybody,
    Just out of curiosity,  can we have area 51 as shown below as total stubby area  even though it is multihomed to three ABR?  I do not find documentation that says we can't.
    Below all links are 1.5M  in area 51, therefore we  want minimize  any OSPF traffic in/out of area 51.  The other sites ( normal areas) also attached to area 0 but not shown for brevity.

    You can multi-home a totally stubby area.  Generally you insert a default route on each link and connect ospf neighbors normally.

    But you diagram seems to suggest having an area not connected to area 0 but some other area.  That is not allowed.  All areas need a connection to area 0 backbone.

    Sorry for the confusion, yes all areas are touching area 0.
    You mentioned:

    But once we have totally stubby area , ABR will suppress LSA5/LSA4,LSA3  ( exception LS3 0.0.0.0/0 will be announced into  total stubby area by ABR so I think we do not need insert a default route, as it happens automatically by ABR when totally stubby area is used).

    Please disregard my last response.  Somehow I confused NSSA with total stubby area where  default route is injected  without user intervention ( at least for Cisco).
