  • 1.  Memory leak in ppp code

Has anyone else noticed that an SRX with a PPP interface that is failing authentication will run out of memory, leading to some devices unable to pass traffic, and errors like this in the messages log?

    May 14 09:14:25 srx-test /kernel: RT_PFE: NH IPC op 1 (ADD NEXTHOP) failed, err 6 (No Memory) peer_class 0, peer_index 0 peer_type 10
    May 14 09:14:25 srx-test /kernel: RT_PFE: NH details: idx 662 type 2 ifl 81
    May 14 09:14:26 srx-test /kernel: RT_PFE: NH IPC op 2 (CHANGE NEXTHOP) failed, err 6 (No Memory) peer_class 0, peer_index 0 peer_type 10
    May 14 09:14:38 srx-test last message repeated 285 times

We've hit this a few times where an SRX has two PPP connections (redundant Internet services) and one is deliberately disabled by changing the password on the radius server. After a few days this bug seems to trigger pretty reliably.

I've been able to reproduce this an many versions of junos.

    Hi,

I have not seen this happing on SRX devices where I use (and have used) ppp(oe)(oa) established connections. Are you using pppoe ? or pppoa ?

If you can reproduces this I would suggest opening a JTAC case and make it a PR so Juniper can fix this "memory leak" in an upcomming release.

Nice to see that share this with the forum
