  • 1.  How to create a route to a sub interface in the DMZ zone ???

    Posted 06-17-2012 11:13

    Hello All,

    I have set a VIP for a server @ 10.1.1.203

The server is located on a sub  interface 6.2 vlan tag 11

    1. problem is that the VIP status is "down"

    2. I try to ping 10.1.1.1 (that interfaces gateway) and no sucess

    3. when i ran a trace i got this :

ping 10.1.1.203 Type escape sequence to abort

Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.1.1.203, timeout is 1 seconds ip 10.1.1.203 is unreachable in vr trust-vr

what am I missing for the fw to route traffic to 10.1.1.203

    thanks for any help

** I believe im missing a static route but ive tried a few different configurations but still can`t ping 10.1.1.203

    #vip
    #SSG5
    #DMZ
    #firewall
    #vlan

Could you please share the config from the firewall.

And if you are unable to ping your gateway for that interface, then check if you are able to learn the Arp for gateway IP

    get Arp | i 10.1.1.1

Also check on the gateway device if that has learned firewalls Arp

    1. set route 10.1.1.203/0 vrouter "untrust-vr" preference 20 metric 1  <<<<<<< This route should not be there because this

IP should  be reachable via E0/1.2 using the

                                                                                                                                                connected route.

    2. What is the purpose of this route :

    set route 10.1.1.1/32 interface ethernet0/6.2 gateway 10.1.1.1 preference 20 permanent tag 11

10.1.1.1 is your interface IP, then why have you configured a /32 route pointing to some other interface ?

I believe by removing the route mentioned in point, the issue should be resolved.

    Sarab,

I have removed the route 10.1.1.1/32 , that what one i created while testing out a solution .

But the route 10.1.1.203/0 i couldnt find in my list of destination routes how would I remove that one from the FW config?

also shouldnt I be able to ping any server on either 10.1.1.X or 10.4.4.X networks with my current config?

    thanks for the help

I saw this command in your config

    set route 10.1.1.203/0 vrouter "untrust-vr" preference 20 metric 1

So this will add a default route pointing to untrust vr ( because subnet mask is /0 )

COuld you please share the current routing table " get route" also enable the Ping on E0/1.2 with the following command : set interface ethernet0/1.2 manage ping

Also try the below mentioned things :

    1. Try pinging 10.1.1.203 from firewall and see if it is able to ping or not. If not then see the Arp is learned or not with the command "get arp | i 10.1.1.203"

    2. From 10.1.1.203 server try pinging firewall IP 10.1.1.1.

Share the logs from command line while doing above steps.

John, you have 3 threads for essentially the same problem. Please direct everyone to just one of the threads as information posted in each thread is relevant to the other two as well.
