  • 1.  EGP, need help!!!!!

    Posted 29 days ago

    I have juniper srx's.

    Os 15.x .

I have this in my statements.

    igp-synchronization

    I need for EGP.

    Anyone have an idea?

Even if you got other OS.

I don't think there's an option to synchronize LDP with an EGP, but I'm not all that familiar with MPLS so I could be wrong.

I would suggest cross-posting this question in the Routing community for visibility:

My apologies for the illegible post.

It is IGP as in internal gateway

    protocol. EGP is external gateway

protocol. Not to be confused with

    BGP, which is border gateway

protocol. But is much the same.

    igp-synchronization

    Thx, Nikolay.

    Hi Eugene,

EGP is a predecessor of EBGP , we should not see EGP anywhere in today's network.

If you have issue with EBGP, you need to provide detail info:

    1) What are you trying to accomplish? an illustration with diagram helps a lot  to get the thoughts across.

    2) Provide diagram and IPS.

    3) Your config.

You can always  use made-up IPS to keep your config secure.

In older network (before we leverage   MPLS to provide BGP-FREE core,) the prefix has to be known via IGP before EBGP peer can announce it to external BGP's PEER, otherwise  traffic for the said prefix will be black holed on transit router .

    EXAMPLE:

Assume X subnet lives behind R4, and only R2 is announcing it to R1 over EBGP.

R2 and R4 runs IBGP with each other.

    Without igp-synchronization:

R2 learns X over  IBGP and announces it to R1.

Let's say R1 sends traffic to X,  R2 receives this traffic, and  routes it to R3.

R3 has no route to X as it has no BGP with R4, so it simply discards it.

    FIXES:

    igp-synchronization

Use igp-synchronization feature, and advertise X subnet in IGP say OSPF.

Once this knob is turned on, it instructs R2 to verify X is being learned via IGP, only if X is learnt via IGP, R2 can announce it outside AS to R1.

This ensure transit router in our case R3 knows how to route X before X can be announced to R1 outside AS.

Thx for the reply. My main objective is to not

directly use any BGP. The reason is trust. I need

proof that my network can be good without it.

This is why I asked for the possibility of EGP

without BGP. Or at least that's what I meant.

I don't want to bombshell BGP just yet either

however. I don't want the bulk of it is my

reasoning. I may be viewed wrong but I'm

trying to find out this scenario. Sound plausible?

I believe it is. If I have sufficient means of using

other techniques for blackholing I can still be

    good?

As far as I want to go is bgp routing instances.

Thx for your conversation on blackholing.

    That was confirmation.
