  • 1.  Cisco Switch Trunk port flapping?

    Posted 11-10-2009 06:41

I have made a reth group with vlan-tagging.

On my primary srx its link to a cisco 4500 is stable

on my secondary srx its link to another cisco 4500 is bouncing between trunk and non-trunk port?

    Cisco port config:

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport trunk allowed vlan 12,15,16
     switchport mode trunk

     switchport nonegotiate
     load-interval 30

    same on both Cisco Switches

messages I am getting on the second cisco

    203235: .Nov 10 14:14:42: %DTP-5-TRUNKPORTON: Port Gi4/5 has become dot1q trunk
    203236: .Nov 10 14:14:43: %DTP-5-NONTRUNKPORTON: Port Gi4/5 has become non-trunk

For some reason my Cisco switch with the flapping goes to :

    Gi4/10           Desg BLK 4         128.202  P2p

    the goes down again.

we are running pvstp+ on this cisco box.

I also see on my non-flapping Cisco switch that the SRX is not seen as an EDGE port which is what I would have thought it would have appeared as.

Turned out to be a faulty patch cord causing the problems.

swapped out and is now rock solid.
