  • 1.  STP between Juniper QFX, Juniper EX, Cisco and FortiSwitches topology

    Posted 01-25-2024 03:28

    Hi Juniper community.

Could you please  share your opinion regarding STP topology and proper STP configuration between Juniper

    Our case is:
The QFX core switch with VSTP and Juniper EX with RSTP  don't talk STP each other.

QFX is the root for himself, all Juniper EX are root for themselves, Cisco switches are with rapid-pvst and with different STP priority and for this reason not become root when they are behind Juniper EX, and for all Cisco switches the root is Juniper QFX.

When we connect Forti, The Forti transparently talks mstp with rapid-pvst  successfully with CIsco switches, and the root for Forti is the Cisco switch.

Any one with experience with an issue like this to integrate interconnectivity between all these switch vendors in one topology with stable STP topology ?

    Thank you in advance.

The question is how to configure all devices to work correctly and achieve correct STP topology?

By default FortiSwitches causes too noises on the network, also make STP issues like loops.

If  we connect  Forti to Juniper, on Juniper side we do this configuration:

    If it's trunk link:
    set protocols layer2-control bpdu-block interface ge-0/0/21 drop

    If it's lacp:
    set protocols layer2-control bpdu-block interface ae1 drop

    And this solves STP issues.
