  • 1.  Show names on the Charts?

    Posted 08-02-2018 00:00
It would be nice to see the name of the interface (or whatever it is you are charting) right where it shows the bandwidth. See picture. When you have more than a couple items on the chart it becomes more difficult to understand what object you are hovering on. You have to cross reference the color in the legend to the color of the line you are hovering over. This may not seem like a big deal, but when you have 10, 20 or 50 objects on the chart it becomes very convoluted. It would be nice to see the name of the object displayed right by the bandwidth for quick reference. Has this been discussed at all and can anyone tell me about upcoming changes that may be related to this? Thank you, and keep up with the UI functionality enhancements, we are really liking them!

    That's a good idea, @Brandon Luchene.

FYI @Erik Thoen, @Ritesh Mukherjee, @Christopher Main@Dillon - if you guys have anything to add.

@Brandon Luchene, funny you should ask because my team and I were just discussing this problem a day or two ago. Our current plan is to remove the single line selection and instead drop a vertical bar highlighting all of the points in each line at a given time. Then, we'll display the time, name, and value of each line to the right of your cursor - imagine these 'details' kinda hover to the right of your cursor as you scan through the chart.

This will hopefully eliminate the pain in making sure your mouse is hovered over the right line (especially when there's a few that are in real close proximity.) More importantly, and more to your point, this will also provide a textual name-value correlation instead of making the user try and match up colors.

Brandon Luchene Attached is a screen shot of what we are looking to add and closely resembles what Dillon Buchanan outlined above. Please let me know if you have any comments or concerns with this new implementation.

@Gregory Jordan, @Dillon. I was just reviewing the graphs further, and the changes you proposed. I think it would be nice if we could create custom labels for the metrics. See screenshot for why I think this is important.

The labels of the metrics can be quite cryptic. This is looking at 4 peers between 2 routers, 2 interfaces on each side. The interface names don't mean anything to us (3/0, 4/0), to us it is just 2 locations with 2 ISP's on each side. I know this config can vary wildly by implementation, but if we were in control of the labels then it would be much less cryptic. In our scenario, I would relabel these to something like "110-CL to 220-Comelec" which are the actual location + ISP names. Then we wouldn't have to remember what interface 3 is and what IP is for which ISP.
