Hi All - I need a simple clarification about BFD. Consider the following simple configuration:
[edit protocols bgp]
group test {
type external;
export test-policy;
bfd-liveness-detection {
minimum-interval 100;
}
neighbor 5.5.5.5;
}
Assuming both peers are configured this way, they each send BFD control packets at ~100ms intervals. Does each router actually send a reply back to its peer for each of these control packets, or does it just make sure it is receiving control packets from its peer at the correct intervals? I've read about echo mode, but not sure if that is supported by JUNOS or not.
So to detect a failure, will a Juniper router drop the BFD session if it stops receiving the control packets originated by it's peer, or is it looking for actual replies from its peer (like an icmp echo reply)?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
