    I don't fully understand why we use the lacp force-up command between switches, so I would like to ask this.
     
    I created lag between two ex2300s in lab environment using ge-0/0/0/17 and ge-0/0/0/18 ports. I first set them both as passive and when I said show interface lacp, I saw that it was down. 
     
    Then I went to ex1 and typed ether-options 802.3ad ae0 lacp force-up under ge-0/0/0/17. This way I saw show interface ae0 as up on ex1, but it was still down on ex2. Shouldn't the lacp force-up command start the traffic when I type it on one side or why are we using it? 
     
    However, I was able to ping when I did lacp force-up under one interfaces in ex2. lacp is passive when there are two opposite switches, but can we enable communication by typing force-up on both sides or am I doing something wrong.

    Short answer: you don't.

    Remove this «force-up», don't force anything (it's exactly what you don't want when using LACP: you want something dynamic and able to detect the absence of  answering facing LACP device), and always configure both extremities as LACP active. That's it.
