I seem to be struggling with locating information on how to properly configure In-band management for my EX4100 series and my EX4400-24X switches. I keep on finding the link for configuration of NFX, not info for the series I am using. Is it just the IRB ports that I should configure or something else? I would like to make sure that, as much as possible, if I make a change to my uplink ports, that I don't lose management connectivity. At this time, I am not looking at setting up anything more complicated, although I may be interested in the future in setting up VRF or whatnot. On the previous switches we used, we basically did the IRB and then that became a management interface that we could use to manage the switch. However, those were not Juniper switches. This is our first foray into them.

You can use the irb or any ip configured interface as the management connections on Juniper devices.  So you can simply duplicate what you were doing with the other vendor.

Juniper does have dedicated mgmt ports on most devices including the ex4400.  These do not permit transit traffic and can only be used for mgmt connections. And can be further isolated into a separate virtual routing instance if desired.

    Thank you Steve,

I appreciate the assistance. I was hoping that was the case. I really appreciate it. When setting up management IPs and vlans, is there a specific thought process you use to ensure the highest chance that you will always have connectivity to the in-band mgmt port?

The irb interfaces are good for access purposes with in band mgmt  especially in a vlan that is used on every external link port leaving the switch so that link failures won't stop access.

Naturally you need to insure that there are no layer 2 loops created in the process.
