  • 1.  IGMP Snooping without a VLAN?

    Is it possible to configure IGMP Snooping without a VLAN? All the documentation I can find relate to configs with a VLAN(s) present. If it is, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

    If the interface is configured as a switch port (family ethernet-switching), it belongs to the default VLAN unless you specify anything else. If it is a routed interface (family inet or inet6), it may be enabled for multicast routing, but not IGMP snooping. This is because snooping is a switchport/L2 feature that is simply irrelevant for L3/routed interfaces.

    IGMP Snooping only makes sense in the context of Layer 2 bridging.  For Layer 3 interfaces, you should configure IGMP (or PIM which enables IGMP implicitly) rather than IGMP Snooping.
