  • 1.  How to replace OLD juniper MX480 RE with new one

    Posted 06-15-2022 12:54
    Hello All,

We have two MX480's with EoL RE (RE-S-1300). we bought some replacement REs and would like to replace them.
What would be the best way to replace/swap the REs without much outage. can we slot the new REs and sync the config even though they are different  models.
    Current version  is  15.1R7.9

    Thank you.

    Hello Ahmed,

This is something i would do

    1. RE 0 EOL - RE 1 EOL | Remove graceful switchover and Non-stop routing
    2. Remove RE 1 EOL | Insert the new RE on RE 1 ( doubut if RE0-EOL will recognize RE 1 new )
    3. I dont think commit sync can work with diff RE versions
    4. Copy all the configuration to the new RE on RE1, then make it master
    5. Remove the RE0 - EOL, insert new RE and then do a commit sync

As this is a RE change, you should expect outage

    Thanks
    Ruban

    Hello Ahmed,

If you just have one RE, then i would suggest you to insert the new RE at the free slot. Paste all configurations. Remove the Old RE.

Mastership wont be formed between old and new RE anyways.

    Thanks
    Ruban
