  • 1.  How much bandwidth overhead is required for 128T router control and management traffic?

As I understand it, a 128T router that is managed by a conductor and peering with other 128T routers, generates a certain amount of control plane traffic (BFD) and management plane traffic (stats, analytics, configuration, SW upgrades, etc.). ¾ Assuming default control plane/BFD settings, and no management activity such as config changes, stats polling, or incoming SW upgrade, any idea how much bandwidth will be taken up by these functions?

    Greg,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Our default BFD settings utilize ~4 kbps to measure path availability and health.

Standard Communication with the conductor utilizes ~7 kbps. Please note that if you have an HA conductor, this number doubles as we maintain independent connectivity to each conductor.

So overall with an HA Conductor, you'll see ~18 kbps utilization for BFD/management during steady state, normal operation.

Let us know if you require any additional information

BFD communication is only between 128T routers that share a peering relationship. The communication between the 128T router and its associated Conductor(s) is comprised of keep alive messages as well as entitlement computations.
