  • 1.  EX Layer 3 speed

    Hi All,

I have a quick question for you experts. When we look at the EX-Switch data sheet we are givin the following in terms of its speed

    Layer 2 Throughput (Mpps)
    • 24P/24T: 65 Mpps (wire speed)
    • 48P/48T: 101 Mpps (wire speed)

this is the switching speed of the box but since these things are awesome and can be used as routers I was wondering if anyone would know what the Layer 3 speed is.

I ask because I am using the switch in an area of the network were it wont do any layer 2 switching but using it as a router between a bunch of subnets.

    Thanks!

Assuming you're looking at an EX3200, in the datasheet it says:

"Each EX3200 switch includes an integrated application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC)-based Packet Forwarding Engine, the EX-PFE, to consistently deliver wire-rate forwarding even with all control-plane features enabled."

So, it's advertised to be wire speed even with L3 routing and other features enabled.
