  • 1.  TE enabled, but no transmit cap?

    Posted 06-11-2018 00:00
Say I want to enable TE on a device interface, but I may not know what that line rate will be based on auto-negotiation (for example, 10/100/1000 Mbps). ¾ Can I simply configure no transmit-cap and have TE kick in based on the operating speed of the link? For example, if the link negotiates to 100 Mbps, will TE begin queuing at 100 Mbps if I don't set any transmit cap? Or is a configured transmit-cap always required?

Sounds to me like you would want to specify maximum bandwidth in terms of percentage of the auto-negotiated link speed. I don?t believe that is currently supported.

Currently the ability does not exist for the 128T system to dynamically adjust the transmit cap based upon the properties of the link speed. If the transmit-cap is not configured, the 128T will use the maximum possible speed of that link as the transmit-cap. As our Traffic Engineering offering continues to expand this is one area that is targeted for enhancement.

    Thanks Ryan Koss .

""...the 128T will use the maximum possible speed of that link as the transmit-cap."" To make sure I understand, that would be a 1Gbs (or 1,000,000,000) transmit cap on a typical 10/100/1000 Ethernet link when no other transmit cap is configured, correct?
