    Hello,

    I upgrade my QFX 5100 to JunOS 17.3R3.10

    Model: qfx5100-48s-6q
    Junos: 17.3R3.10

    I create a virtual-chassis between 2 QFX.

    At the beggining i had some trouble with vc-port but now it's OK.

    show virtual-chassis vc-port
    fpc0:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Interface Type Trunk Status Speed Neighbor
    or ID (mbps) ID Interface
    PIC / Port
    0/48 Configured 5 Up 40000 1 vcp-255/0/48
    0/50 Configured 5 Up 40000 1 vcp-255/0/50

    fpc1:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Interface Type Trunk Status Speed Neighbor
    or ID (mbps) ID Interface
    PIC / Port
    0/48 Configured 5 Up 40000 0 vcp-255/0/48
    0/50 Configured 5 Up 40000 0 vcp-255/0/50

    But i have one member which is in "Linecard" mode:

    how virtual-chassis

    Preprovisioned Virtual Chassis
    Virtual Chassis ID: 6447.7c9c.137f
    Virtual Chassis Mode: Mixed
    Mstr Mixed Route Neighbor List
    Member ID Status Serial No Model prio Role Mode Mode ID Interface

    1 vcp-255/0/50
    1 (FPC 1) Inactive TAXXXXXX qfx5100-48s-6q 129 Linecard N VC 0 vcp-255/0/48
    0 vcp-255/0/50

    show virtual-chassis
    preprovisioned;
    no-split-detection;
    member 0 {
    role routing-engine;
    serial-number TAXXXX;
    }
    member 1 {
    role routing-engine;
    serial-number TAXXXXX;
    }

    I want to have routing-engine for the 2 QFX. (master/backup)

    Do you have an idea ?

    Thks

     Hi maxx,

    The "Inactive" status is indicative the other QFX is on a different software version as compared to the Master.  Please validate using "show version all-members".  If it's on a different version, please copy over the jinstall file to it again and upgrade it individually to match the master.

    Step 1: Copy the image file to master /var/tmp/

    Step 2: Move the file to the other member i.e.:

    > file copy /var/tmp/jinstall.... fpc1:/var/tmp/

    Step 3:

    > request system software add <image file> member 1

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    -r.

    Hello,

    I try your solution but it does not work.

    But  now i have a new problem

    My VCP port (40Gb/s interface) do up/down.

    Virtualchassis is doing up/down too and when the VCP port are down i have 2 master 😞

    when it's up i have 1 master and 1 linecard with status: not present

    Is it a junos bug ?

    Hi just noticed this:

    But i have one member which is in "Linecard" mode:

    how virtual-chassis

    Preprovisioned Virtual Chassis
    Virtual Chassis ID: 6447.7c9c.137f
    Virtual Chassis Mode: Mixed <-------------- mixed mode is enabled
    Mstr Mixed Route Neighbor List
    Member ID Status Serial No Model prio Role Mode Mode ID Interface

    do request virtual-chassis mode mixed disable

    this will require a reboot

    hi maxx

    it should only be in mixed mode if you have 2 different device lines working in one VC for example 5100/4300 if you have only 2 5100 that would not work as they are no mixed.

    let us know if it helps

    try to upgrade to latest service release - 17.3R3-S4.2 and verify that serial numbers in virtual chassis are correct
