Yes the best way is to power off the devices that you want to remove, then remove the config and then reboot the devices that are being kept.

We are downsizing our headquarters and need to reduce our footprint [smaller closet space], so reconfig our EX4600 virtual chassis to a single device, and reduce a large EX4300-MP virtual-chassis from 7 to 3 switches. The only methods I have seen in the support docs are #edit virtual-chassis delete member ID , and removing the preprovisioned lines from the configuration, then a reboot. Are there any other steps or tricks I should be aware of? Appreciate the help.
