  • 1.  juniper SRX upgrade path from JUNOS 21.4.R3.15 to 23.2R1

    Posted 07-19-2023 10:30

Hello, I am trying to ascertain the upgrade path on my SRX EX 4100s and 3400s from JUNOS 21.4.R3.15 to 23.2R1 in order to fix the latest high risk CVE vulnerabilities.  The site is well out of date for finding this out.  Can anyone confirm this for me please?

You should be able to upgrade straight to 232R1 as far as a I know.

What I've always been told is that there's a recommendation of going 2 mainline versions up when you're at a hardened/long term support release (being x.2R3 and x.4R3 at the current numbering scheme), so you can go from 21 -> 23. I sometimes see misunderstandings thinking 2 versions means .2 to .4 for example, but as far as I know it refers to the first number in the versioning.

The upgrade jump requirements are outlined in the target release version section on Migration, upgrade and downgrade.

In your case the SRX section of 23.2 here.  Which shows the jump is within the expected upgrade range.

These aren't SRX's, but I recently upgraded some MX204's and followed these steps... I recall getting JTAC recommendations on this.

    MX204 I have 18.4R1-S3.1, so...

    18.4R1-S3.1 - currently running

    19.1 - skip

    19.2 - skip

    19.3 - upgrade

    19.4 - skip

    20.1 - skip

    20.2 - upgrade

    20.3 - skip

    20.4 - skip

    21.1 - upgrade

    21.2 - skip

    21.3 - skip

    21.4 - upgrade

    22.1 - skip

    22.2 - upgrade (target version)
