  • 1.  Find connected Mac Address

    Posted 01-10-2022 06:34
Is there a way to find the mac addresses "Connected" to each port on the switch.  I know I can find the "learned" mac addresses from the command show ethernet-swtiching table, but this seems to be not necessarily what device is connected to that port but what mac address that port has 'learned'.

VLAN             MAC address     Type       Age Interfaces
      FWSync2         *               Flood         - All-members
      FWSync2         00:00:00:00:fe:00 Learn         0 ge-1/0/33.0
      FWSync2         00:00:00:00:fe:01 Learn         0 ge-1/0/32.0
      FWSync2         00:01:00:00:fd:00 Learn         0 ge-1/0/32.0
      FWSync2         e4:43:4b:50:5c:7d Learn         0 ge-1/0/33.0
      FWSync2         e4:43:4b:53:0f:15 Learn         0 ge-1/0/32.0

    Unless....these initial entries are broadcasts?

However I have entries like this and I know port 21 is not connected to another switch.

      tp-mpp-hosted-dmz 00:50:56:b0:09:52 Learn         0 ge-0/0/21.0

      tp-mpp-hosted-dmz 00:50:56:b0:0b:28 Learn       40 ge-0/0/21.0

    Good Day,

That is fundamentally the way switching works. It will only learn the frame source MAC address as it process the  packet. The only other way I can think of to potentially see what the MAC address are of a transparent but physically connected  device interfaces is if there are some protocol exchange happening like STP or LLDP etc. between these physically connected devices.
