We are planning to upgrade our Junos Fusion Enterprise on Ex92xx  Aggregation devices,  However we are confused about the upgradation path as the two commands related to JUNOS OS version displays different outputs. i.e.

    •     Juniper version displayed under "show vmhost version" output differs from the one displayed in "show version".

    > show vmhost version

Current root details, Device sda, Label: jrootp_P, Partition: sda3
           Current boot disk: Primary
           Current root set: p
           UEFI Version: NGRE_v00.53.00.01

Primary Disk, Upgrade Time: <fresh install>

           Version: set p
          VMHost Version: 3.1192
          VMHost Root: vmhost-x86_64-17.1R1-20170124_0219_builder
          VMHost Core: vmhost-core-x86_64-17.1R1-20170124_0219_builder
          kernel: 3.10.100-ovp-rt110-WR6.0.0.31_preempt-rt
         Junos Disk: junos-install-x86-64-17.1R1.8

       Version: set b
       VMHost Version: 3.1192
       VMHost Root: vmhost-x86_64-17.1R1-20170124_0219_builder
       VMHost Core: vmhost-core-x86_64-17.1R1-20170124_0219_builder
       kernel: 3.10.100-ovp-rt110-WR6.0.0.31_preempt-rt
       Junos Disk: junos-install-x86-64-17.1R1.8

    > show version
            Junos: 17.4R2-S6

    1)  Can someone please guide why there is a mismatch in OS versions displayed by the the two commands?
    and
    2) what starting point (i.e 17.4 or 17.1 ) we need to consider in deciding our upgradation path. We will be upgrading to OS 20.X. with max 2EEOL iterations as recommended.
