  • 1.  mac-learning-log time discrepancies

    When investigating for flapping, I use the  command

    show ethernet-switching mac-learning-log | match move | no-more

    which will show me the various addresses flapping that just occurred.

    Even though my date/time is correct on the switch (show system uptime),  the time displayed by the mac learning log does not seems to relate to anything.

    root@mrcvo-senneterre-06-SitePrincipal-2020-08-10> show ethernet-switching mac-learning-log | match move | no-more

    Thu Sep 16 17:53:26 2021 vlan_name QinQ-3925 mac ac:d5:64:56:83:83 was moved from ge-0/0/0.3925 to ge-0/0/11.3925 with flags: 0x2101f

    root@mrcvo-senneterre-06-SitePrincipal-2020-08-10> show system uptime

    Current time: 2021-09-16 13:57:35 EDT

    Time Source:  LOCAL CLOCK

    What am I missing, here ?

    Check the timezone on the device, show configuration system time-zone and change it accordingly to make it homogeneous across all applications.

    bonjour ElvinArias,
        I just checked on a site showing me the discrepancies and the time-zone match my actual location:
    show configuration system time-zone
    time-zone America/Montreal;
       I will probably end up opening a case with Juniper. I'll keep you posted.

    JTAC will probably tell you the same thing, that the MAC learning log is in UTC. Device timezone has no bearing on this, but setting all of your devices to use UTC will have additional benefits if your organization spans multiple timezones. Otherwise it really sucks when trying to troubleshoot a L2 issue in realtime but it is what it is. Maybe it's a chipset limitation.
