The kb article tracking the recommended versions is here.
https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB21476When upgrading pay close attention to release notes. As a general rule Junos upgrades are only allowed to jump 3 major versions. Major version is the number before the period.
This is also only tested from the EEOL (extended end of life) release version which varies by release year depending on the specific release train. So if you are not running an EEOL version you generally upgrade to the EEOL of your release first, then start the jumps up in major version.
Other upgrade details are outlined in the upgrade section of the release notes for the version you are going to end up on. And these rules may also vary as noted in the release notes.

Subject: Recommended firmware for EX3400
Hi Experts,
I am currently running version 15.1X53-D590.1 on one of my EX3400 switches and 14.1X53-D42.3 on the other EX3400 switch.
Could someone please advise on which is the recommended version for this switch. I have not run into any issues but would like to upgrade.
TIA.
