  • 1.  Counting sessions on an SRX firewall

    Posted 10-19-2022 06:36
    Hi All,

I'm trying to find how many sessions are passing through our firewall in average, but I do not have a clear answer just yet.
Could you please tell me what the values in the following output means? The documentation is not clear for me:
user@srx_1> show security flow session summary
    node0:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unicast-sessions: 48595
    Multicast-sessions: 0
    Services-offload-sessions: 0
    Failed-sessions: 0
    Sessions-in-use: 49785
      Valid sessions: 47319
      Pending sessions: 0
      Invalidated sessions: 2466
      Sessions in other states: 0
    Maximum-sessions: 10485760

    node1:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unicast-sessions: 44677
    Multicast-sessions: 0
    Services-offload-sessions: 0
    Failed-sessions: 0
    Sessions-in-use: 46482
      Valid sessions: 44402
      Pending sessions: 0
      Invalidated sessions: 2080
      Sessions in other states: 0
    Maximum-sessions: 10485760`

I assume that the "Unicast-sessions" mean the number of existing sessions when the show command was executed.
But how about the "Maximum-sessions" ?

Does that mean the highest number of sessions on this devices since boot OR the maximum number of session allowed through?

Maximum sessions is the device limit of sessions that can be created.
