New feature added to JCL BYO, Chaperoned Access

Chaperoned Access is a new JCL reservation feature which enables a user to access reservation resources directly from the public Internet (IPv4), without a need to connect (VPN) to Juniper private network or to be logged into the JCL portal.

For your convenience, below are highlights from the more detailed description available here.

Traditionally, JCL users can access reservation resources from within Juniper private network, using one of these two methods:

    • Through JCL web portal, by opening additional web-browser tab for selected protocols (ssh, https, http, rdp, vnc)
      • The reservation owner and users he/she adds to the reservation can connect
      • The users must be logged into the JCL portal
    • Using native client (ssh, https, http, rdp, vnc) and connecting directly to the resource’s IP address
      • For preventing accidental access to the resources in someone’s else reservation, only one IP address is allowed to access the reservation resources this way

Chaperoned access is an additional method for JCL users and their guests to connect directly to JCL resources.

JCL user is a user who can login to JCL web portal with his own username and password (SSO). Juniper employees and Ingenious Champions (Juniper partners) can be JCL users.

JCL Guest or Guest user is a person without username/account defined in JCL, who uses JCL resources through the help of the Chaperone.

The Chaperone is the JCL user, who can prepare the reservation in JCL and let Guest users connect to the resources directly from the public Internet, without using JCL web portal.

Typical use cases for Chaperoned Access:

    • Access to the JCL reservation resource needed for the guests who do not have VPN access to Juniper’s private network
      • Juniper Customers
      • Juniper Partners without JCL access (below Ingenious Champion level)
    • Use of JCL web portal is not required, e.g. classroom setup with Bare Metal Server(s) with hypervisor(s) – the VMs are not seen as JCL resources
