  • 1.  parity error on ex4200

    Hello,
    i have a ex4200 as a top of rack switch and i have faced parity error on it and here is the log :
    noc@R12> show log messages | match parity
    Nov 28 23:35:04 R12 /kernel: Buffer management parity error detected in mpfe0, value 0, re-init the PFE
    Nov 29 01:39:18 R12 /kernel: Buffer management parity error detected in mpfe0, value 0, re-init the PFE

    Dec 5 00:40:56 R12 /kernel: Buffer management parity error detected in mpfe0, value 0, re-init the PFE
    Dec 5 05:51:38 R12 /kernel: Buffer management parity error detected in mpfe0, value 0, re-init the PFE
    Dec 5 07:32:33 R12 /kernel: Buffer management parity error detected in mpfe0, value 0, re-init the PFE
    Dec 7 17:35:20 R12 /kernel: Buffer management parity error detected in mpfe0, value 0, re-init the PFE
    Dec 7 17:35:59 R12 /kernel: Buffer management parity error detected in mpfe0, value 0, re-init the PFE

    so i want to know can i ignore it and safely continue using it?its working for abour a year

    Hello,

    The parity error is seen many times on mpfe0 !!
    You can't ignore these logs, I advise you to be ready with a replacement switch or Proactively proceed with RMA. 

    This means that the memory on the PFE is failing and you need to avoid any service impact as long as these logs still reported by the switch.

    so this mean the witch will stop working soon if i do not replace it ?

    Well, we Can't confirm this 100% but normally reoccurrence of such this Parity error for a long time may lead to crash the switch.
    That's why we advise to proactive proceed with RMA to avoid any unplanned service impact.
