Certifications

  • 1.  How can I check when my certificates will expire?

    Hi guys,

on November 2017 I passed the JNCIS-SEC exam (JN0-333 code). It has been my first and last Juniper certification. Today I tried to check my certification status via "Cert Manager" portal (https://www.juniper.net/certmanager/) but it should not be expired because the three years have not yet gone.

in the "EXAMS" section I can see my exams passed (in my case just the JNCIS-SEC exam) but in the "CERTIFICATIONS" section I don't see any certifications, I can see just this message: "Your status will be shown after taking and passing at least one exam." (see the screenshot in attach).

Why couldn't I see my certification in the "CERTIFICATIONS" section? And how can I check my certifications status?

My idea is take a new certification (as the JNCIA) to renew the other one, like happen with Cisco. is it possible?

sorry guys, reading the Juniper documentations I realized that my certification (JNCIS-SEC) is not an entry level as I though, it's the second Juniper certification in the security field. infact the entry level certification is the JNCIA-SEC.

in the following web site, Juniper says that the JNCIA-SEC is a prerequisite certification to get the JNCIS-SEC:

    https://www.juniper.net/uk/en/training/certification/certification-tracks/junos-security-track?tab=jncisec

maybe is it for this reason that I can't see my JNCIS-SEC certification in the "Cert Manager" portal? it means that my JNCIS-SEC is not valid?

When you took the JNCIS-SEC the prerequisite was JNCIA-Junos.  Now they have restored the old separate track with JNCIA-SEC.

So if you had JNCIA-Junos then you would have a valid JNCIS-SEC.

But as you note Juniper certifications generally have a track path from Associate to specialist to professional then expert with each one requires holding all the previous to be valid.  The advantage of the system is that you don't have to repeat topics and quesions as you go through the process.

The other thing to note is that when you create the Juniper certification portal account make sure it has the same email address as your testing center account.  This is how the results are linked and posted.  So if they don't match they won't come over at all.

Ciao spuluka and thanks for your reply!

Yeah, now I remember, but I didn't ever get the JNCIA-Junos certification, I got only the JNCIS-SEC via the JN0-333 old exam. So if I want to valid my JNCIS-SEC certification now, I have to pass the JNCIA-SEC right?

I have just checked it. I have the same e-mail and CertManager ID in my Pearson Vue and CertManager accounts. So I should not have any kind of issue.

Now I want to take the JNCIA-SEC to valid my JNCIS-SEC certification and renew it (now I should have around an year before it expires). What about the recertification process? Can I take another Specialist certification level like the JNCIS-ENT torenew my JNCIS-SEC certification? Reading the Juniper documentation it seems not:
    https://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/certification/recertification/

To renew my JNCIS-SEC certification, Juniper makes me to pass again the JNCIS-SEC exam. Unfortunately Juniper is not like Cisco about the certifications renew. Did I understand good? Can you give me a confirm?

Your interpretations are all correct.  In the first case you must have lower level certs in order to get the higher level one.  Without an Associate cert you are NOT awarded the Specialist one.  And so on.  So once your pass the JNCIA-SEC your JNCIS-SEC will activate on that day and not before.

For renewals you also correctly note that cross track renewals are NOT done in Juniper.  Your renew a track by passing the next higher level or the same as your current level in the SAME track SEC, SP, ENT, Design etc.

Occasionally Juniper runs promotions where taking in person classes will renew certification tracks.
