    Posted 08-25-2013 06:33

    Hi,

Once a candidate passes the JNCIP-SEC, then within what duration period must he/she attempt the lab?.

And what is the procedure of actually booking a date to take the lab?.

    thank you

Juniper uses the concept of certification status for either the recertification at the same level or the advancing of the certification to the next level.

When you pass the professional level exam you will have active certification status for two years starting from the exam pass date.  For the third year your certification status is inactive.  After this the cerfification status is expired.

You are able to advance or recertify from professional to expert during either the active or inactive status.  You cannot advance or recertifiy when the certification is expired.

Thus you have three years from the date of your pass on the professional exam to sit for the expert lab exam.

See the certification status page for fuller details.

thank you sir. information was exactly what I was seeking.

three years is great news, particularly when compared with Cisco's 18mnths, extended to two years if at least one lab attempt is made within 18mnths.

Steve - great summary as always!  Thanks.

I will add one key point however.  You CANNOT take the JNCIE lab exam unless you have an ACTIVE JNCIP.  So, if you want to advance to the JNCIE make sure you do it during the two years your JNCIP is active.

If the JNCIP goes into inactive status you will need to first attempt that exam again - to regain Active status - before advancing to JNCIE.

The exam registration information page is here.  This has a tab for the general lab information and another for the permanent lab locations.

    http://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/certification/exam_registration.html

On the tab for the lab exams is the link to the scheduling tool.  I believe you need to create an account there to see the schedule at the available locations and book a slot.
