    Hi everyone,

I noticed when I used virtual gateway on spine SW in CRB design, spine switch advertises Type1 route for gateway address.

    The knobs :

gateway do -not -advertise  or gateway advertise or gateway  no-gateway-community only affects gateway IPS defined  under irb ( not  virtual-gateway ip).

    Example:

    S1 config:

    L1 config:

    #######################################################

    L1 sees  Type 1 AD/ESI route   virtual-gateway IP ( 50.50.50.254)

Below L1 sees Virtual gateway MAC is tied to ESI announced above in type 1:

MAC/IP for virtual-gateway 50.50.50.254 is shown below, tied to ESI:

What is the purpose of announcing type1 AD/ESI for virtual-gateway 50.50.50.254?

    Much appreciated!!

I guess if you have duplicate gateways then they will both create EVPN Type-1 and Type-4 routes and perform DF-election. So it's probably a preparation for multi router setup and fast failover that EVPN provides same as for ESI-LAG between Leafs and servers (or standalone switch).

Thanks but I do not follow you .

There is no type 4 route when virtual gateway knob is used.

If there would be another S2 device with similar IRB configuration as S1 then L1 device will receive EVPN routes from S2 and you will see S1 + S2 elect the DF and advertise EVPN Type-4 route.

Later if there's a failure in the network then the L1 device could failover quicker and traffic would not be interrupted (or less).
