  • 1.  upgrade os EX4100

    Posted 08-27-2025 02:55

Hello, I want to upgrade my EX4100-48 MP from version 22.3r1-12 to the recommended version 23.4r2-s4. I downloaded the version junos-install-ex-arm-64-23.4R2-S4.11.tgz from the Juniper website and installed it in the Junos Space Network software. But the software tells me that this OS is not compatible with the EX4100, telling me it's intended for M71 platforms, etc. So, is this the right OS for the EX4100?

    Hi @VAISSEAU YOHAN

I believe The EX4100 series runs on x86-64 architecture, not ARM.

You might need to download something like [junos-install-ex-x86-64-23.4R2-S4.11.tgz

    Hope that helps

I don't run the MP models, most of my 4100s are EX4100-48P but I can tell you that I've manually upgraded a number of them using junos-install-ex-arm-64-23.4R2-S4.11.tgz downloaded from Juniper support.  Some of them are standalone switches and some VCs.  Some of them are on new code, too (junos-install-ex-arm-64-24.4R1-S3.6.tgz).  I don't use the Space Network software, though, so I can't speak to why you're getting that message.

If you want the CLI version of Junos 23.4R2-S4 for EX4100-48MP, download it from here

    https://webdownload.juniper.net/swdl/dl/secure/site/1/record/184931.html?pf=EX4100

    Filename should be >   junos-install-ex-arm-64-23.4R2-S4.11.tgz

OR if you want the USB media version (to burn onto a USB key using software like Rufus), download that here

    https://webdownload.juniper.net/swdl/dl/secure/site/1/record/184968.html?pf=EX4100

    Filename should be >   junos-install-media-usb-ex-arm-64-23.4R2-S4.11.img.gz

Note CLI version has TGZ extension, whereas USB ISO version has GZ extension. Hope that helps.
