  • 1.  Upgrade EX4400-24X switch

    I have an EX4400-24X switch running Junos OS version 23.1R1.8, and I would like to upgrade it to version 23.4R2-SX.

    Can I upgrade directly to this version, or do I need to go through an intermediate release first ?

    We all have 2 options: Format Install or Step-Upgrade. 

    If it's not in the VC and is a standalone switch you can GA with format installation as downtime will be less than 50 minutes.

    If it's in VC, it's better to go with a step upgrade. In your case, the current version and target version is in the same stable build. That SR basically fixes issues introduced in the stable build or any service release. You can jump directly to the target version, as there won't be much code change.

    For EOL, you can jump 3 releases, like 23.1 to 23.4  (Example)

    For EEOL, you can only jump 2 releases, like 23.1 to 23.3 (Example)

    But I have done 3 upgrades recently on EX3400s ( 21.3 to 23.4R2-S8 directly, with no step-upgrades). As of now, no issue is seen.
