  • 1.  SRX650 - booting from 4GB external compactflash

    Hey folks,

Running JUNOS 11.4R12, I'm attempting to use a 4GB CompactFlash card in an SRX650, while I recognise the documentation indicates a 2GB should be used, they are proving hard to source locally where I am.

Following along the document here Backing Up an Installation Using Snapshots (Junos OS) | Junos OS | Juniper Networks for the SRX650 and booting off USB, enabling external CF in u-boot, the SRX seems to identify there is a CF there but thinks there is no space on it:

    Routing Engine   REV 18   750-xxxx   yyyyy          RE-SRXSME-SRE6
      ad1       0 MB

    > request system snapshot media external partition
error: external (/dev/ad1) is too small. Size must be atleast 1GB

Have tried a few variations on formatting the 4GB CF, formatted with 4 & 2GB (FAT) partitions using windows diskpart.

Has anyone had success in a similar scenario, or have any suggestions on other things to try here?

    Thanks in advance.

There are some old srx650 specific format instructions that use a boot to USB then snapshot method outlined here.

Thanks, but I've tried that with no luck (same as in the more recent instructions I linked).
