  • 1.  SRX1500 bricked during upgrade attempt, 3 different units all stuck at 'Wind River Linux" prompt

    I opened 4 new SRX1500 firewalls, downloaded the latest JTAC recommended OS.  Followed the normally very simple upgrade process on the hash verified OS and let the software validate during the upgrade attempt.

    3 of 4 of the SRX1500s are bricked and will only boot to a "Wind River Linux" prompt that seems just about worthless from what I can find on this website, KB's, etc.  Do I need to send these back to Juniper for new or is there something I can do to recover these units?  It took 9 weeks to get them so I'm REALLY hoping there's an option available to bring these units back to life without an RMA.

    I would open a JTAC case since they are relatively new and probably have a support contract. 

    They will help you restore the software using external media like a usb drive.  The process varies depending on platform so documenting it here is not relevant.

    If that doesn't work, they will RMA the units. In my experience, the RMA replacement units are already pre-placed in distribution and availability is much better than standard distribution for purchasing.

    Thanks for the offer, i had already tried everything applicable on that page.  It matches a bunch of other models recovery options, but doesn't work

    A new KB article was posted on this issue today.  The recovery procedure will be from a USB boot method.

    I suppose when you opened a case they identified the issue and recovery method that works for this hardware.

    I did get around this issue by using a different install process via USB.  The link to the article above isn't accessible to me unfortunately; 'elevated permissions needed'.
