  • 1.  Optics not supporting configured speed on QFX5240-64OD

    Posted 01-31-2025 10:26

    Hello everyone,

I am reaching out to the community for assistance with a problem I am facing during the testing of transceivers (!non-juniper!) on the Juniper QFX5240-64OD switch. The switch is not providing a TX signal on the ports.

    • All involved transceivers show no transmitter power (Laser output power: 0 mW), and the TX lasers are disabled (Tx laser disabled alarm: On).
    • This issue persists across various transceivers, including ACD-800-OSFP.A3M, NADDOD OSFP-800G-2xFR4H, HISILICON OSFP-800G-2xFR4H, and FIBO FT-O800-2FR4.

          Laser output power : 0 mW / -40.00 dBm

          Laser output power : 0 mW / -40.00 dBm
      ...

I have taken several troubleshooting steps, but unfortunately, the issue remains unresolved:

    • The recommended software version has been installed: JUNOS 23.4R2-S2.3-EVO.
    • Recommended command were implemented (no-auto-negotiation, etc
    • The device has been rebooted, and power cycling was performed.
    • Various transceivers were tested.
    • Physical connections and transceiver parameters were verified.

Additionally, I observed that the ACD-800-OSFP.SR8 transceivers were able to bring up ports, but only when configured for 2x400G and 8x100G options.

I keep receiving alarms indicating "Optics does not support configured speed," even though some vendors claim that their transceivers (NADDOD OSFP-800G-2xFR4H) have been successfully tested with this switch.

Maybe somebody faced this issue? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Andrey

Having links down can be due to multiple reason including 3-party optics.  Please refer to https://apps.juniper.net/hct/product/?prd=QFX5240-64OD to validate supported and qualified optics for this platform.  Using non-juniper optics could lead to other unexpected behaviors as well.

On the other hand, I share with you some basic steps to tshoot optics for reference. I highly recommend to open a case with JTAC to further validate.

    Regards
