  • 1.  log reduction or suppression on Junos

    Hello.
Is there any way to suppress the amount of log messages generated for the same event? we had a situation in which a device was under heavy load because it generated lots of the same log messages over and over again for the same event (in our case, for incompatible SFP model). that device was nearly unresponsive for SNMP pull request due to the load.

You can suppress particular messages with the match condition in the configuration.

    Hello.

by suppressing all of the log messages that matches certain condition, we will no longer see any of that log messages. It might be good or no depending on the goal. what I want is logging just, let's say, one out of 10 or 20 logs from the repeating same log messages, so while we know what happens, in the same time prevent additional non-necessary repetitive log messages to put a load on device or make log files grow in size. I think there is such solution is Cisco devices in which we can determine log frequencies.

    regards.

You can configure log suppression with a start-log  low value number.
