  • 1.  IS-IS database showing L2 database when only Level1 is enabled

    Posted 18 days ago

    Hi everyone,

I have been googling the reason whey Juniper shows L2 database when only L1 level is enabled:

    EX1:

    EX2:

As can be seen above, both EX are running ISIS at Level1.

But we look at ISIS database on either EX1 or EX2, we also see L2 database:

Does anyone know the reason why L2 database is maintained when only Level 1 ISIS adjacency is enabled ?

    Much appreciated!!

That's because you didn't turn off level 2 globally so EX1 created an LSP for itself.  Run the command "set protocols isis level 2 disable" and you will see the level 2 database empty out.  It's a good practice if you know your device will be contained entirely in Level 1.  Not only is it more efficient, but will stop accidental L2 adjacencies from forming.
