  • 1.  I am seeing some random APs not using the 2.4 Ghz frequency, but they all use the the same templates. Why?

I ran into an issue where some IoT devices could not connect to our wifi, and I fond the reason was that not all of my APs show the 2.4 Ghz frequency in the Mist Dashboard. I quick sample check found that  locations where the IoT devices were not working had APs that did not show the 2.4 Ghz as being on.  How could this happen, if all of my APs run on the same WLAN templates and SSIDs?

I contacted tech support and they found I have a template that has the 2.4ghz setting as "auto" which allows the APs to turn off 2.4ghz to:

"RRM will automatically disable 2.4 GHz band radios based on coverage and capacity".  This sounds like a good idea, but it means that these IoT devices that require 2.4 will lose the connection if the APs turn it off.  I would like to be able to override this template for APs that I need to keep the 2.4ghz connection. Is there a way to do that? I haven't found where I can do that.

    Hi John,

There is indeed a way to override the template values for a single AP, a group of APs, by AP model, by site, etc. Several options to choose from.

I'll be back in the office on Monday and happy to discuss with you.

    Thanks

    Hi John,

I replied to your other thread regarding turning off 2.4 GHz radios from a template but leaving specific AP's 2.4 GHz radios on for IoT devices.

I'll be back in the office on Monday and happy to discuss your options with you.

    Thanks

Since the APs that I need to continue talking with both bands so that these sensors can connect, I applied an override to that profile only. That way any AP that is assigned that profile will re-enable the 2.4Ghx band. That appears to have worked for the AP33s, but I have an AP63 that has not re-enabled it.  Still talking to support about this.
