  • 1.  Ex4200 and ex4300 , can be primary and backup?

    Posted 06-16-2024 12:50

    Hi ,

We have ex4200 7switches, but primary switch get problem, therefore we have replaced with Ex4300, but now facing issues with whole network, all device getting disconnected,  however 6 Ex4200 and 1 Ex4300(primary) are up in Virtual chassis.

Are we missing any configuration step?

Ex4200 and ex4300 are not compatible as primary and Backup?

Have you added to the configuration the mixed mode setting to insure the ex4200 are compatible.

    request virtual-chassis mode mixed

    Hi Muhammad,

I don't believe these can be used together in the same VC as they both run completely different versions of Junos and have different config between the 2 models.

Virtual chassis requires the same version of Junos to operate properly. Your options are to split your devices in to 2 different VCs one for 4300s and one for 4200s, or replace the rest of the VC so that they are all the same models.

    Many thanks

    Harry

Harry is correct, EX4200 and EX4300 are not compatible to run in a VC together.

Just on lifecycle for those old switches ... EX4200 was end of sale Jan 2019, and goes End-of-service on 30 June 2024, in couple of weeks.  EX4300 24/48{P/T] was end of sale Jun'22, with end of support 2029.

EX4100 & EX4400 are usual replacements folks consider for these, or EX4100-F if power redundancy is not needed.
