Thank you for coming to coming back to answer your own query.
I have an identical-looking issue with the vMX ( not Junos evolved ).

If anyone finds this thread in the future, junos Evo needs
"Set forwarding options tunnel-termination"

Subject: Evpn-vxlan Stitching using MAC-VRF with Gateway interconnect | ARP works, but ICMP does not?
Hello all,
I've got a weird situation where i've got a leaf connected to another leaf via a junos evo, acting as a DCI gateway.
Each leaf has a routing instance, connected to a client PC.
I can't ping two computers on the same subnet, separated by the evo router and leafs, but after I clear the ARP table on each client and start a ping, I see the mac address of the other client.
It appears unicast traffic is not working over the evpn-vxlan fabric, but BUM traffic is.
Anyone have a thought?
