I have a question about the ibgp setup between two route reflectors and the family route-target. I have seen some mentions that it should be configured on the ibgp session between the route reflectors. My question is how - by configuring a route target advertise default or allow it the configuration to just allow the route-target advertainments? I hope this makes sense.

family route-target is a nice optimization  to avoid sending useless vpn-v4/v6 routes between PEs, by sending each PE only the route-targets routes it is interested by.

So, it's interesting to have family route-target in all your iBGP sessions.

Because the route-reflectors, by definition, must receive all the routes, they are interested by all the route-targets. So when you configure this family on them, you can «optimize the optimization» by configuring a default route-target on the route-reflectors (meaning «send me all» instead of letting them re-advertise all the route-targets they see (therefore in route-target family they will only advertise this default).
