As the subject line says, We are migrating our Core from 2 HP Procurve's to 2 JP EX4400s and the JPs are managed through Mist Dashboard. We are wanting to keep our HP core active while we migrate to the JP.
The challenge for us is our vlans have an IP Helper configured and if we have 2 cores connected at the same time and both cores have the same IP for this, I'm not sure what will happen, but I'm sure nothing good.
I was thinking if this would work, but I'm not sure how this will affect the network. I hoping others here have gone through this and I can learn from their experience.
Notes about the network
vlan 1 is in use (yes, we are working on get rid of it)
We've replaced 10 other HPs on the network already
the management for JP has its own network
Notes about the JP core
All vlans setup
Port profile setup
All ports assigned correct vlan
routes setup
Migration process
Connect JP to an uplink to the HP
I know each port will work since this would be identical to the other ones already setup
remove IP Helper on HP
Add Additional IP Configuration in the JP for each VLAN
I talked to a JP technician and he said this is equal to HPs IP helper
Create relay for each vlan to dhcp server
The problem is, I don't know how long it will take Mist to push the config, so I don't know when to remove the IP Helper on the HP. If I guess wrong, I'll be back to having duplicate IPs.
I'm open to any other suggestions too
thank you for any assistance
