  • 1.  Can I jump from Junos 14 to 21 with fresh install on QFX5100-48S-6Q

    Posted 27 days ago

    Hi Community,

I'm planning to upgrade a qfx5100-48s-6q switch that is currently running Junos OS version 14.1X53-D35.3 I'd like to know if it's possible and supported to perform a direct jump to version 21 using a fresh install with USB drive.

This device is part of a production environment, so I want to ensure compatibility and avoid unexpected issues during the upgrade.

Has anyone performed a similar upgrade?  or best practices I should be aware of?

Appreciate any guidance or documentation you can share.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

Yes you can do that. You can upgrade to 21.4R3-S10, that's the suggested one, and also the one which has the most support.

It is best to do it in a maintenance window. USB installation and post upgrade tasks may take some time.

    Thank you!

Before proceeding with an update please ensure you have tested in a lab environment and/or a backup copy of the original configuration. Just to be clear, to jump versions directly like this you will be doing a format install from the USB boot.  This will erase the current configuration and make the device inaccessible so you will need local access.

This also means you need to copy off and save, or pull from a backup the current configuration and use that to restore the production status of the device after the upgrade and reboot is complete.
