We have been using Apstra to orchestrate a Juniper EVPN VXLAN IP Fabric for more than a year now. Overall its working very well and is more or less intuitive what to do.
However, there is a big scalability concern which have got my attention. When I create a new Routing Zone, you need to assign a VLAN id for it. This VLAN is globally reserved across the entire blueprint and cannot be used for any other purposes.
I have been digging in the configuration Apstra provisions on the QFX switches, and to my understanding, the VLAN id is only used to derive a routing distinguisher.
Does anyone know what the purpose is of this VLAN id and if there are any plans to change it - so we can have more that 4k VRFs in our IP Fabric?
