SRX300 usb serial console driver - which one?

  • 1.  SRX300 usb serial console driver - which one?

    Posted 05-24-2016 04:46

    Hi,

anyone in here who knows which (Windows) driver there should be installed to use the USB serial console port on the new SRX300 gateways? I'm not able to find information about which chipset that has been used and cannot find any relevant download on juniper.net (neither for SRX300, SRX340, SRX345 or SRX1500 which I expect uses the same chipset).

The suggested driver for EX2200-C and EX4300 usb serial console does not give any positive result. Windows still reports a missing driver.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

Please check if the USB console driver available on the below link works for you.

    Hi Pulkit,

Thanks for the pointer! Technically the driver works BUT: it is so old that Windows 10 rejects the driver installation due to missing signing. I have to reboot and select some special options just to allow the installation of the driver.

I have tried to download the latest version of the VCP CP210x driver from https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx but the SRX300 device is not recognized correctly by this driver.

Basically Juniper needs to provide an updated driver for the VCP interface for all newer SRX gateways (300/320/340/345/550/1500).

Anyway - thanks again. This will keep it working for now. I will get in touch with Juniper regarding the missing driver.

    Hi Jonas,

I've hit the same problem that you did, but to solve it I signed the driver that Juniper provided for the SRX550.  This allows you to install the driver without needing to change your driver signing settings in Windows 10.

    http://weaklogic.com/wp/juniper-srx300-and-srx340-usb-driver/

The only file added was 'jnprvcp.cat' from the driver provided by Juniper.

Hopefully it's useful to you, or to someone else.

    Cheers,

    Niels

    PUTTY works perfectly.

The options I set are -

    Connection type - Serial

    Serial line - COM4

(you may need to use a different COM port)

    Speed - 9600

Then I set up the console screen as I want it.

    PUTTY is free.

It is working on a Win 10 PRO 64-bit laptop

    Hi Magni,

Please use https://www.silabs.com/products/development-tools/software/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers for downloading the driver. The Silabs link changed and the KB is in the process of getting updated.

The weaklogic driver used to work for me until about 3 weeks ago and I received a windows update. Now, none of these UART drivers works.... The SI windows 7_10 64 bit driver at least installed and i have a COM5 port, but it doesn't do anything to connect ...

I followed the commands of the post after this with the new drivers and got COM5 working again. I still couldn't connect, but then I found this post which states the USB port on the device is not active by default. https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/port-console-and-auxiliary-configuring.html So I added a: set system ports auxiliary port-type mini-usb And now I can access the device by either console cable or USB. Thanks
