  • 1.  SRX1500 Upgrade Failure

    Posted 10-04-2021 13:27
I have been trying to upgrade the firmware on my srx1500 , currently running 15.1X49-D180.2. Every attempt and every version, passes validation but fails post-install. and when I reboot the new version is not implemented.

I have performed both the MD5 and SHA1 checksums, pre-validated (see below), performed both show system storage (see below) and request system storage cleanup

I have performed request system software add with version 18.2R3, 19.4R3, 20.4R3, and even gone back to 17.2R3. I have attempted no-copy, no-validate, and the reboot option. Nothing seems to work.

I have successfully perform this upgrade on other srx1500s from the same manufacturing run, all with either 15.1X49-D60 or D180.

Despite the result of a pending upgrade, the request system software rollback results in no image. I don't really understand the block showing "Host OS Upgrade is FORCED" and my research hasn't shown much. Force is not one of the available options when selecting cli dialogue.

Any help is appreciated. Please see the below captures for information...

It looks like the the first upgrade attempt is listed as pending and preventing you additional attempts.
upgrade_platform: There is pending upgrade. upgrade_in_progress=stage
upgrade_platform: do rollback before attempting another upgrade
    Has the srx1500 been rebooted?
If it has, try a complete power off and clean start up and see what the status and version is after that.

Yup, been rebooted about 5 times, even zeroized, an minimally configured to access. I will attempt a the total power cycle, but I'm not optimistic. I appreciate the response and will post the result.

    Hi,

you probably should try this KB article :

    https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB33185

Login to hypervisor in SRX1500 might be the same as in the NFX, or you may try the other ways (request app-engine host-shell, or start shell user root + rsh -JU __juniper_private4__ 192.168.1.1 or vhclient -s)

No dice on shutdown and startup. My next effort will be to attempt loading firmware via USB. Still in the market for new ideas and all are welcome.

If the message is still the same as before, running a version rollback would be a possible solution
    request system software rollback
