I just found out recently Juniper released new AC PS for MX960. It is called Second generation. Is there any significant change in comparison to first high power AC PS? Do we need an upgrade if we have cards working the first generation?
Due to the increase in power consumption because of to capacity increases in routing equipment, and since Power consumption cost is a significant OPEX and Power infrastructure cost is a significant CAPEX.
Second generation PS help reduce costs by supporting higher efficiency than standard AC and lower installation cost than standard DC.
This type of PS provides :
1- Fewer power conversion stages compared to AC
2- Lower installation cost compared to standard DC
Second generation PS supported in MX960 & MX2K routers.
This is not for a specific new card and no mandatory upgrade is needed.
Again, short and effective response. Thank you for your help and support
