  • 1.  Question on MSDP Preference

    Hi.

    From the output below, I see that MSDP has 2 preference values: 175 and 1.

    user@R1> 
    show route table inet.4


    inet.4
    : 1 destinations, 1 routes (1 active, 0 holddown, 0 hidden)

    + = Active Route, - = Last Active, * = Both

    224.7.7.7,10.0.107.2/32*[MSDP/175/1] 00:00:07

                       
    > to 30.30.30.2
    via ge-0/1/2.0

    Why does MSDP also have a preference value of 1?

    Turns out the 1 was not the preference. It means that the received MSDP SA message passed the router's peer-RPF check. If it hadn't, the entry would still be in the inet.4 table but with the number '2' i.e. 
    224.7.7.7,10.0.107.2/32*[MSDP/175/2]
