  • 1.  Enable 4x 1G/10G SFP/SFP+ module in a EX4300 switch

    Posted 08-31-2021 09:37
I have 4x 1G/10G SFP/SFP+ card installed in my EX4300 switch with a 10GB sfp in it but I can't seems to be able to get a link when i connect the fiber to the SFP.

I tried another card and got the same result. I'm new with Juniper but do i need to manually enable the card or does it do automatically ?

    Thanks,
    GXS

You will need to add configuration for the ports as they won't exist in the default configuration.

But the first step is to check that both the card and optics are recognized.  This should list the card and recognized optics.
    show chassis hardware

Then  add the interface configuration you want for the particular ports either xe or ge per the optic.

Once the fiber link is connected you can check the status of the light with
    show interfaces diagnostics optics

    Steve,

I configure the interface xe-0/2/3  but I sill can't get the connection to link up.

See below for regarding the port in question.

Since there is no link we need to confirm the optic and light on both sides of the physical link.  Run these on both devices.

the optic is recognized by the device
    show chassis hardware

And the light is seen from the other optic
    show interface diagnostics optic xe-#/#/#

    Hi,

@gxs,  not an expert but you seem to have RX loss on xe-0/2/3.
root@trhq-idf3e-sw01-jnpr> show interfaces diagnostics optics xe-0/2/3
    Physical interface: xe-0/2/3
Laser bias current : 8.918 mA
        Laser output power : 0.5480 mW / -2.61 dBm
        Module temperature : 35 degrees C / 95 degrees F
        Module voltage : 3.3440 V
        Laser receiver power : 0.0001 mW / -40.00 dBm

Sorry to hijack the thread but I am also on the same boat but I have good tx/rx on both ends.  not sure why the physical link still shows down, and Active Defects: LINK, LOCAL-FAULT.

    Side A
cr02> show interfaces diagnostics optics xe-0/0/0
    Physical interface: xe-0/0/0
Laser bias current : 5.566 mA
    Laser output power : 0.4970 mW / -3.04 dBm
    Module temperature : 28 degrees C / 82 degrees F
    Module voltage : 3.3110 V
    Laser receiver power : 0.5524 mW / -2.58 dBm

    Side Z

    ac01(config-if-Te1/0/2)#show fiber-ports optical-transceiver

    Output Input
Port Temp Voltage Current Power Power TX LOS
[C] [Volt] [mA] [dBm] [dBm] Fault
    --------- ---- ------- ------- ------- ------- ----- ---
    Te1/0/2 31.4 3.276 5.9 -2.236 -3.889 No No

Temp - Internally measured transceiver temperatures.
Voltage - Internally measured supply voltage.
Current - Measured TX bias current.
Output Power - Measured optical output power relative to 1mW.
Input Power - Measured optical power received relative to 1mW.
    TX Fault - Transmitter fault.
    LOS - Loss of signal.

    I would appreciate any advice.
    Thank you.
    Mark

I 'had a similar issue last week, my switch A had a 1gb sfp and at the other end (switch B) a 10gb sfp. I found that sfps do not support negociation, they need to be at same speed , after what the led light came up both end.
