  • 1.  [ask] EX 2300 with mikrotik direct connection but high latency

    Posted 04-15-2021 07:20
    Helo,
i have problem with juniper ex 2300,
    this is maybe basic question
when i connect switch ex2300 directly to mikrotik router using UTP or FiberOptic.. and assign ip for each device.
then we ping each other as a result the latency is not good..
as i know it should be getting 0-1ms.. but reality we have got around 3-15ms..
    any idea?

    Hi HENDRANATA,

Ping is not a recommended method for testing latency or delay as ICMP messages are considered low priority within Junos OS.

Please connect laptop/server to both EX2300 and mikrotik router and then try to ping from host to host to check the latency.

    this is my testing:

router mikrotik A ---> switch juniper --> router mikrotik B ( performing ping A to B has a good latency)

switch juniper --> router mikroitk (bad ping latency)

because the result is bad ping latency.. sometime it shows rto (request time out).. and sometime back to normal with bad latency..
using junos recommneded from jtac already and issue seems appear similar.

    Hi,

router mikrotik A ---> switch juniper --> router mikrotik B ( performing ping A to B has a good latency)

This is the recommended way for testing latency and it does not show any issue.

switch juniper --> router mikroitk (bad ping latency)

This is not recommended and can show high latency, but it shouldn't show RTO.

Do you see any CRC/errors/drops on the connected interfaces ?

What is the CPU on EX2300 when you see RTO ?

    however this:

server ---> switch juniper (perform ping from server to ip switch juniper.. the result latency is bad)

i dont see any cable issue.. crc/errors/drops are not shown in the interface both router mikrotik and switch juniper..
this issue recently happen. i have check : diagnostic optic xe-0/1/0 and result are good.. power tx/rx is good.. no alarm or warning..

i suspect might be the junos OS can cause this case.. and i check the load switch juniper also below 1.. (not overload)

Would suggest to test the latency the recommended way:

    Host/router ------ EX2300 ------- Host/router

    rather than pinging EX2300 directly

anyway problem solved affter upgrade ros version to the latest long term..
so there is no issue with junos version..

Hi, ping to EX2300 is 3-15ms+ is ok. Its by design. All other functionality is ok.
