    Hi sarahr202,

    Greetings If am getting your question right, it will survive a reboot if you store the Junos OS file in the /var/tmp ( actually any file) if you use the request system software add + Junos OS file +reboot = upgrade, the file will be pushed to the file system from the /var/tmp/ directory.

    Hi Sarahr202,

    Do you like to retain the exact same Junos OS file on var/tmp/ folder once the upgrade is complete?  If yes, this cannot be done since the system deletes the old information and explodes (expands) the zipped files contained in the new jinstall OS file.

    Now, if you'd to upload ANY file to /var/tmp folder, the file should be always there across reboots based on Linux directory structure.

    /var – Variable Files

    • var stands for variable files.
    • Content of the files that are expected to grow can be found under this directory.
    • This includes — system log files (/var/log); packages and database files (/var/lib); emails (/var/mail); print queues (/var/spool); lock files (/var/lock); temp files needed across reboots (/var/tmp);

    Hope this helps!!

    Thanks,

    Hi sarahr202,

    Correct, in summary:

    If you store the file in the /var/tmp+reboot = survive

    If you store the file in the /var/tmp+push the package to the file system( request system software add) +reboot= won't survive.
