  • 1.  Virtual Chassis in Ex2300 and Ex3400

    Dear all,
I will buy juniper 2x Ex2300 or 2x Ex 3400.I want to use virtual chassis in those two switches(only two switch).when i read data sheet and tech book,it is not clear. So i would like to know
Can i use copper (Rj45)ports as VC port in those model?
Can i use one interconnected link between two switches if i don't care reduandancy?
If i use one DAC cable for VC internconnect, it us enought for two swiches(i use two switches only to run VC)?
If i need 3x10G port for data connectivity and i want to run virtual chassis in,two switch,Ex2300 is correct model, for,me?

    Hello,

QFX5200, EX3400, EX3300, EX2300, and EX2200 switches cannot be part of any mixed Virtual Chassis. Multigigabit EX2300 switches can form a Virtual Chassis composed of only EX2300 multigigabit switches, and cannot be mixed with other EX2300 switches in a Virtual Chassis.

If you want to have one virtual chassis between two EX2300 & other virtual chassis between EX3400, then that is possible.

On ES2300, you can not use RJ45 ports as VC port.

    Regards,

    Rushi

If you need 3 x SFP+ per switch, i will recommend the EX3400 as it has 2 x QSFP on the back specifically for interconnecting VC-members. Then you can keep the 4 x SFP+ for revenue ports.

Designing a solution without redundancy on VC links is far from good practice.

You would buy 2 x EX-QSFP-40GE-DAC-50CM as the cheapest way to interconnect them on the back.

Bonus info; remember that EX2300 requires an extra license per virtual chassis member (EX2300-VC) where it's included on the EX3400. If you are focused on EX2300-24T and EX3400-24T this will end up with roughly the same price for these due to the cost of the VC-license on the EX2300 series.

Can I use copper (Rj45)ports as VC port in those model?  NO
Can I use one interconnected link between two switches if I don't care redundancy? YES
If i use one DAC cable for VC interconnect, it us enough for two switches(i use two switches only to run VC)? YES
If i need 3x10G port for data connectivity and I want to run virtual chassis in,two switches,Ex2300 is correct model, for me?  => NO, you would need EX3400 or EX4300
